Alan Lessik is a novelist, writer, zen practitioner, amateur figure skater, LGBT activist and member of the National Writers Union. His debut novel, The Troubleseeker, was a finalist for Publishing Triangle's 2017 LGBTQ Fiction Award. Critics have compared his writing to Gabriel Garcia Marquez and Reinaldo Arenas. His essays on re-writing the stories that trauma leaves in our bodies have been published by Lambda Literary and Chelsea Station Editions. In addition, The Advocate, San Francisco Bay Guardian, and Frontiers have published his articles covering LGBT rights in South Africa. In 2014, his radio essay, “Judge Not His Death” on KQED Radio Perspectives was one of the most commented on that year. Alan is the Executive Director of Civicorps, the only accredited high school and job training program in the East Bay for young adults 18-26 that have not finished school.
