Liza Monroy is the author of three books: the debut novel Mexican High, the controversial memoir The Marriage Act: The Risk I Took To Keep My Best Friend In America And What It Taught Us About Love, and Seeing As Your Shoes Are Soon To Be On Fire: essays. Her articles and essays have appeared in The New York Times, The New York Times Magazine, The Washington Post, The Los Angeles Times, O (Oprah Magazine), Newsweek, Village Voice, Marie Claire, Everyday With Rachael Ray, among others, and her "Modern Love" essays have been anthologized in a new volume of the "most popular, provocative, and unforgettable essays from the past fifteen years of the New York Times 'Modern Love' column." She has taught writing at Columbia University and UCLA Extension, and currently at UC Santa Cruz.
