Maureen Fan is a Berkeley resident working on a family memoir about her grandfather and his estranged, eldest daughter. Her grandfather, whose buildings still stand in Shanghai today, was one of the first generation of Chinese architects to study in America. Her aunt, desperate to follow in his footsteps, strives for a homecoming before it's too late. Maureen is a former John S. Knight fellow whose work has appeared in the San Francisco Chronicle, the Washington Post, the San Jose Mercury News, the New York Daily News, Newsday, the Los Angeles Times, and at Under the Volcano in Tepoztlán.
