Theodore Gioia is critic living in San Francisco. Hailing from a line of writers, he has the dubious distinction of being the second best-known writer named Ted Gioia in his family. He has held a range of jobs from host at the Olive Garden to the editorial staff at McSweeney’s. His writing on food and culture has appeared in The Believer, The American Scholar, Los Angeles Review of Books, and VQR. Currently, he is writing a book of essays about the evolution of California culture framed through food. Theodore is a member of the San Francisco Writer’s Grotto.

Theodore also organizes a number of literary events and creative projects. His projects include curating the “Rising Writers” series at the Mechanics Institute, a website interviewing food critics titled Forktongue, and a film non-profit called Blank Verse Films that adapts poems into digital videos.
